EurogateLogistics Poland has joined the prestigious group of companies certified as #AuthorisedEconomicOperators – AEO-S on January 19, 2019. The certificate confirms the highest security standards kept by Eurogate Logistics. Almost one year ago Eurogate decided to apply for #AEO-SCertificate to keep up with market changes and provide a higher quality customer logistics experience for our customers. Eurogate reviewed, verified and adjusted its procedures to meet the strict requirements of the Customs Office that grants the certificate.
At first, Eurogate Poland had all its operational processes and IT security audited which resulted in a plan of required changes and improvements within the organisation. One of them was a crucial decision to change Eurogate Logistics Headquarter base and move it into a modern and well secured building located in Astrum Business Park in Warsaw. The Quality Department had to verify all existing procedures and create new ones that cover the safety of employees, cargo and documents. There were internal audits which focused on the Eurogate infrastructure and financial conditions too. The Custom Officers audited the Eurogate Poland headquarter base and Branches, and the findings were positive.
Finally, after a year of hard work and involvement of all Eurogate Logistics employees the AEO-S Certificate was granted. This certificate confirms that the European Union Customs Administration acknowledges Eurogate Logistics Poland is a credible and reliable business partner. The AEO status is respected within all EU structures and in few other countries such as the USA, China or Japan.
What is AEO?
The Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) concept is based on the Customs-to-Business partnership introduced by the World Customs Organisation (WCO). Traders who voluntarily meet a wide range of criteria work in close cooperation with customs authorities to assure the common objective of supply chain security and are entitled to enjoy benefits throughout the EU. The EU established its AEO concept based on the internationally recognised standards, creating a legal basis for it in 2008.
The program, which aims to enhance international supply chain security and to facilitate legitimate trade, is open to all supply chain actors. It covers economic operators authorised for customs simplification (AEOC), security and safety (AEOS) or a combination of the two.
The AEO status can be granted to any economic operator meeting the following common criteria.
Conditions & criteria:
- Compliance with customs legislation and taxation rules and absence of criminal offences related to the economic activity – AEOC / AEOS
- Appropriate record keeping – AEOC / AEOS
- Financial solvency – AEOC / AEOS
- Proven practical standards of competence or professional qualifications – AEOC only
- Appropriate security and safety measures – AEOS only.
The AEO status granted by one Member State is recognised by the customs authorities in all EU Member States.
Who can become AEO?
Any economic operator established in the customs territory of the European Union who is part of the international supply chain and is involved in customs-related operations, may apply for the AEO status.
